John Wilson founded the firm in 1953. He was joined in partnership by Antony J Giles in 1967. The firm became "John Wilson & Giles”. John Wilson and Tony Giles worked in partnership for many years before John retired in the mid 1980s.

Tony Giles carried on as a sole practitioner until 1997 when two of his children, Melinda and Philip, joined him in partnership. The firm became "Giles Wilson". Tony retired in 1999 but remains involved in the firm as a Consultant.

The firm has always been based in the Thames Drive area of Leigh-on-Sea. In 2005, the firm moved from its longstanding home at Sutherland House to the old bank at the corner of London Road and Stirling Avenue. This move has secured the long term future of the business and the building gives room for the firm to grow.

In 1999, Melinda and Philip opened a branch office in historic Rochford, just off the Market Square in West Street.
